Pearson Wetlands Mitigation Bank is
located in eastern Lucas County, in the City of Oregon. The
project will include approximately: 150 acres of restored forested
wetlands; 3,100 feet of restored stream; 10 acres of scrub shrub
marsh; 25 acres of existing swamp forest; and over 20 acres restored
wet meadow and native prairie.
The project is currently under review
by the Mitigation Bank Review Team. It is hoped that final
approval of this Bank will occur by the end of 2006.
Currently, on a case by case basis the Ohio Wetlands Foundation is
using the project to complete mitigation projects for entities
needing larger amounts of mitigation for individual permits.
These projects are "turn key" wetlands mitigation projects for a
fixed cost. Construction of the western half the project will
be completed in the fall of 2006 and the eastern half will be
completed in the winter and/or spring of 2007.
The site is owned by the Metro Parks of
the Toledo Area and is part of the Pearson Metro Park which lies
directly south of the project. The wetlands bank portion of
the Pearson Metro Park will include the restored wetlands as well as
hiking/biking trails, public parking, picnic areas and a historical
interpretative center.
Wetland
mitigation credits are currently unavailable.
The service area for this wetlands mitigation bank has not been
finalized but it is anticipated that it will include all of
the Sandusky River watershed (USGS hydrologic unit 04100011)
as well as all of Sandusky, Lucas, Wood and Ottawa Counties.
In addition, Level 1 Isolated Wetlands Permits from anywhere
within the Ohio portion of the Buffalo Corps of Engineers District
may utilize Three Eagles. |
