Big Island Wetlands Mitigation Bank

The Ohio Wetlands Foundation's Big Island site is located  west of Marion, Ohio, just off of State Route 95.  The project was constructed in 1995 and includes over 340 acres of restored and enhanced wetlands. It is the 2nd mitigation bank completed by Ohio Wetlands Foundation.  Similar to it's first bank (Hebron), this project was completed in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Today, Big Island Wetlands Mitigation Bank area is open to the public for passive recreational uses such as hiking, bird watching and hunting.  The mitigation bank is only part of the Big Island Wildlife Area. The Big Island Wildlife Area includes over 2,000 acres of land and which includes over 1,000 acres of restored wetlands.  For information about public access to Big Island Wildlife Area, please contact the ODNR Division of Wildlife
